Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. 1976 Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Two years later she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for her journalism achievements, such as the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over the years, including budget reform, tax reform and The Iran Contra affair. She traveled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
